Sheep Shares - Mutton

Sheep Shares - Mutton

Our Jacobs are culled semi annually in the spring or fall, per the standards for livestock conservation and the needs of lambing and breeding season. Mutton shares (animal is older than 18 mos) of this delicious grass fed sheep can be reserved by the half or whole with a deposit. A half share includes a full side (shoulder to hink shank) of the animal. For a good look at the types of cuts from a side of lamb check out the American Lamb Board cuts poster. To learn more about reserving a share of meat please contact us at Shepherd@theworthyjacobfarm.com

  • Purchasing a share of lamb

Shares are reserved prior to butchering. The cost of cut and wrap is figured into a buyer's final total, but most often paid directly by them to a third party butcher of choice.  This year we will process at Malco's Buxton Meats, our local slaughter facility with humane processing practices and USDA inspection on site. This is separate from the price of the animal share, which is paid to our farm @ $8.50 per lb. of hanging weight.
